Ahead of Eid: Banks Prepare 24-Hour Services, Digital Banking Transactions Surge

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) together with the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) and the Association of National Private Banks (Asbanda) have announced the readiness of 24-hour banking services, especially for digital banking services, to ensure smooth transactions during the homecoming and Eid period.

Bank Indonesia (BI) records that digital banking transactions during March 2026 are predicted to surge by up to 35 percent compared to the previous month. This surge is driven by the distribution of Holiday Allowances (THR), the need for inter-regional money transfers, and online shopping for Eid necessities which is increasingly massive.

Purnama Dhedhy Styawan, an Economics and Public Policy Expert in Jakarta, views this banking readiness as a very necessary strategic step. “Ahead of Eid, the public’s need for transactions increases drastically. Starting from cash withdrawals, sending money to hometowns, to paying for online shopping. Banks must be present 24 hours, not only physically but also digitally,” he said.

According to Dhedhy, there are several main factors causing the surge in digital banking transactions ahead of Eid:

First, seasonal consumption patterns. People tend to increase spending for Eid needs, such as food, clothing, and parcels. “Most of these transactions are done digitally. E-commerce and QRIS are the backbone of payments,” Dhedhy explained.

Second, the tradition of sending money (transfers) to hometowns. For migrants, sending THR or money for family back home is an annual obligation. “Inter-bank and inter-regional transfers surge sharply. This is a crucial moment where the reliability of the banking system is tested,” he added.

Third, ease of access to digital banking. With high smartphone penetration, people are increasingly comfortable using mobile banking for various needs, including bill payments, purchasing credit, and mutual fund investments.

Dhedhy outlines several steps banks have prepared to anticipate this surge:

  1. Increased system (server) capacity. Major banks have upgraded server capacity to avoid disruptions or system downtimes due to high transaction volumes. “System failure at a critical moment could trigger panic. Banks must ensure their digital infrastructure is resilient,” Dhedhy emphasized.
  2. 24-hour customer service. In addition to digital services, banks are also deploying customer service via call centers, chatbots, and social media to respond quickly to customer complaints.
  3. Addition of cash in ATMs. Although digital transactions increase, the need for cash withdrawals also remains high. Banks ensure sufficient cash supply in ATMs, especially on homecoming routes and tourist destinations.
  4. Education on digital transaction security. Dhedhy highlights the importance of digital literacy regarding transaction security. “The transaction surge momentum is always exploited by cybercriminals. Banks must actively educate customers not to be easily tricked by phishing or social engineering modes,” he said.

Dhedhy also reminds the public to use digital banking services wisely:

  • Ensure a secure internet connection. Avoid transactions using public Wi-Fi to prevent data interception.
  • Keep personal data confidential. Never give your PIN, OTP, or password to anyone, including those claiming to be from the bank.
  • Utilize additional security features. Activate transaction notifications and use two-factor authentication (2FA) if available.
  • Report immediately if something is wrong. If you receive a suspicious transaction notification, immediately contact the bank.

“The convenience of digital transactions must be accompanied by vigilance. Don’t let the Eid euphoria turn into a disaster due to the slightest negligence,” Dhedhy advised.

Jelang Hari Raya: Perbankan Siapkan Layanan 24 Jam, Transaksi Digital Banking Melonjak

WIN Media, Jakarta, 18/3/2026 – Menjelang Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1447 H, sektor perbankan Indonesia bergerak cepat mengantisipasi lonjakan transaksi keuangan masyarakat. Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) bersama Himpunan Bank Milik Negara (Himbara) dan Asosiasi Bank Swasta Nasional (Asbanda) mengumumkan kesiapan layanan perbankan 24 jam, terutama untuk layanan digital banking, guna memastikan kelancaran transaksi selama periode mudik dan Lebaran.

Bank Indonesia (BI) mencatat, transaksi digital banking selama Maret 2026 diprediksi melonjak hingga 35 persen dibanding bulan sebelumnya. Lonjakan ini didorong oleh pembagian Tunjangan Hari Raya (THR), kebutuhan pengiriman uang antar daerah, serta belanja online untuk kebutuhan Lebaran yang semakin masif.

Purnama Dhedhy Styawan, Pakar Ekonomi dan Kebijakan Publik di Jakarta, menilai kesiapan perbankan ini sebagai langkah strategis yang sangat diperlukan. “Menjelang Lebaran, kebutuhan transaksi masyarakat meningkat drastis. Mulai dari tarik tunai, transfer uang ke kampung halaman, hingga pembayaran belanja online. Perbankan harus hadir 24 jam, tidak hanya secara fisik tapi juga digital,” ujarnya.

Menurut Dhedhy, ada beberapa faktor utama yang menyebabkan lonjakan transaksi digital banking jelang Lebaran:

Pertama, pola konsumsi musiman. Masyarakat cenderung meningkatkan belanja untuk kebutuhan Lebaran, seperti makanan, pakaian, dan parcel. “Sebagian besar transaksi ini dilakukan secara digital. E-commerce dan QRIS menjadi tulang punggung pembayaran,” jelas Dhedhy.

Kedua, tradisi kirim uang (transfer) ke kampung halaman. Bagi perantau, mengirimkan THR atau uang untuk keluarga di kampung adalah kewajiban tahunan. “Transfer antarbank dan antar daerah melonjak tajam. Ini momen krusial di mana keandalan sistem perbankan diuji,” tambahnya.

Ketiga, kemudahan akses digital banking. Dengan penetrasi smartphone yang tinggi, masyarakat semakin nyaman menggunakan mobile banking untuk berbagai kebutuhan, termasuk pembayaran tagihan, pembelian pulsa, hingga investasi reksadana.

Dhedhy memaparkan sejumlah langkah yang telah disiapkan perbankan untuk mengantisipasi lonjakan ini:

  1. Peningkatan kapasitas sistem (server). Bank-bank besar telah melakukan upgrade kapasitas server untuk menghindari gangguan atau down system akibat tingginya volume transaksi. “Kegagalan sistem di momen kritis bisa memicu kepanikan. Bank harus memastikan infrastruktur digitalnya tangguh,” tegas Dhedhy.
  2. Layanan customer service 24 jam. Selain layanan digital, bank juga menyiagakan customer service melalui call center, chatbot, dan media sosial untuk merespons cepat keluhan nasabah.
  3. Penambahan uang tunai di ATM. Meski transaksi digital meningkat, kebutuhan tarik tunai juga tetap tinggi. Perbankan memastikan pasokan uang di ATM cukup, terutama di jalur mudik dan daerah tujuan wisata.
  4. Edukasi keamanan transaksi digital. Dhedhy menyoroti pentingnya literasi digital terkait keamanan bertransaksi. “Momentum lonjakan transaksi selalu dimanfaatkan penjahat siber. Bank harus aktif mengedukasi nasabah agar tidak mudah tertipu modus phishing atau social engineering,” ujarnya.

Dhedhy juga mengingatkan masyarakat untuk bijak menggunakan layanan perbankan digital:

  • Pastikan koneksi internet aman. Hindari transaksi menggunakan Wi-Fi publik untuk mencegah penyadapan data.
  • Jaga kerahasiaan data pribadi. Jangan pernah memberikan PIN, OTP, atau password kepada siapa pun, termasuk yang mengaku dari bank.
  • Manfaatkan fitur keamanan tambahan. Aktifkan notifikasi transaksi dan gunakan autentikasi dua faktor (2FA) jika tersedia.
  • Laporkan segera jika ada kejanggalan. Jika menerima notifikasi transaksi mencurigakan, segera hubungi bank.

“Kemudahan bertransaksi digital harus dibarengi dengan kewaspadaan. Jangan sampai euforia Lebaran berubah jadi petaka karena kelalaian sekecil apa pun,” pesan Dhedhy.

Dengan kesiapan perbankan dan kewaspadaan masyarakat, diharapkan arus keuangan selama Lebaran dapat berjalan lancar, aman, dan nyaman bagi semua pihak.
