Islamic Economy on the Rise! Sharia Stocks and Investments Attract Young Investors

WIN Media, Makassar, 6/3/2026 – Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, Indonesia’s Islamic capital market has recorded encouraging performance. The Indonesian Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) and the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) have shown significant strengthening amid global market volatility. This phenomenon is inseparable from the increasing interest of young investors in Sharia-compliant investment instruments.

Data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) as of early March 2026 shows that the number of Sharia investors has grown by 25 percent year-on-year, with millennials and Gen Z dominating at 60 percent. These young investors are now eyeing Sharia-compliant stocks in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and technology sectors that are included in the Sharia securities list.

Helmy Syamsuri, an Expert in Islamic Economics and the Halal Industry at STIE YPUP Makassar, assesses that the strengthening of Sharia stock indices ahead of Eid is a seasonal phenomenon that has gained additional momentum this year. “There are religious and psychological factors. Approaching Eid, Muslims tend to want to ensure their wealth is pure and blessed. Sharia investing offers peace of mind because the process adheres to Islamic principles, free from usury (riba), gambling (maisir), and excessive uncertainty (gharar),” Helmy explained.

She added that Sharia financial literacy among young people is improving thanks to the penetration of social media and education from various investment platforms. “They are not only looking for profit but also for blessings. This is a positive trend that must be supported by providing innovative and easily accessible Sharia investment products,” she said.

Helmy also highlighted the role of the rapidly growing halal industry in Indonesia. “Stocks of companies operating in the halal food, Muslim fashion, family-friendly tourism, and halal cosmetics sectors are becoming prima donnas. Their business fundamentals are strong because they are supported by a large domestic market,” she added.

Despite his optimism, Helmy reminds novice investors to remain cautious and conduct fundamental analysis before investing. “Don’t just be tempted by promises of quick profits. Understand the company’s business, make sure it is on the Sharia securities list, and consult with a financial planner if necessary,” she advised.

With this positive trend, analysts predict that Indonesia’s Islamic economic ecosystem will become increasingly competitive on the global stage, in line with the nation’s vision to become a world center for the halal industry.

Ekonomi Syariah Naik Daun! Investasi dan Saham Syariah Mulai Dilirik Investor Muda

WIN Media, Makassar, 6/3/2026 – Jelang Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1447 H, pasar modal syariah Indonesia mencatatkan kinerja menggembirakan.
